Viktor Gyokeres is growing increasingly frustrated as his transfer to Arsenal stalls, despite reports that Manchester United are attempting to hijack the move. The Swedish striker, currently at Sporting CP, has been Arsenal’s top target this summer.
The Gunners reportedly agreed a £55 million deal with Sporting last week, but negotiations over the structure and add-ons have delayed the transfer’s completion. Portuguese outlet SIC Noticias claimed Manchester United entered talks, but English sources have since played down the threat of a hijack.
Arsenal are “so far down the line” with the deal that it’s now just “the finer details.” Gyokeres is eager to join Arsenal immediately and is frustrated by the ongoing delay.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta declined to comment directly on the player during the club’s pre-season tour in Singapore and Hong Kong. However, he acknowledged the need for more signings, saying: “We are short and we have to improve the depth and quality of the squad… we are constantly looking in the market.”
The Gunners have already spent over £123 million this summer on Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, and Noni Madueke, and are also close to signing Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera.
Gyokeres, it appears, is still hoping to be the next through the door at the Emirates.
