Matchday Fever

Sheffield United have secured the signing of Louie Barry from Aston Villa on a season-long loan, marking a key addition to Ruben Selles’ attacking options as the Blades try again for a push to the Premier League.

The 22-year-old forward, known for his pace, flair, and eye for goal, reunites with Selles after a brief — albeit injury-hit — spell under the same manager at Hull City last season. His ability is unquestioned, and this loan could offer Barry a chance to prove he belongs at the top levels of English football.

Rediscovering Form at Stockport

After recovering from injury, Barry started the 2024/25 season with Stockport County in League One, where he quickly made headlines. The young striker netted 15 goals in 23 league appearances, becoming one of the most dangerous forwards in the division and playing a key role in Stockport’s promotion push.

That red-hot form caught the attention of several Championship clubs, but it was Sheffield United who acted swiftly to seal the deal — a move Barry himself was eager to make.

“The first time I had conversations about it, I just couldn’t wait to come here,” Barry told the club website. “The season is three weeks away, and I know we have a couple of friendlies before, but I am just buzzing to get started.”

Selles’ Second Addition of the Day

Barry is Sheffield United’s second signing in 24 hours, following the arrival of Bulgarian teenager Anton Polendakov from Septemvri Sofia. The Blades have been active in the transfer market this summer as they look to bounce back following their relegation from the Premier League two season ago.
