Could Alexander Isak be packing his bags this summer? The Newcastle United striker is reportedly exploring a move away from St. James’ Park, with some of Europe’s elite clubs circling.
The Swedish star was noticeably absent from Newcastle’s 30-man squad for their pre-season tour of Asia, officially due to a “minor thigh injury.” But sources suggest there might be more to the story than just a sore muscle.
Liverpool, despite splashing £69 million on Hugo Ekitike, are still keeping tabs on the 25-year-old goal machine. Isak netted a jaw-dropping 27 goals in 42 appearances last season — enough to make any manager do a double take.
Eddie Howe Plays It Cool
Manager Eddie Howe insists there’s no drama here. Speaking after the Magpies’ 4-0 loss to Celtic (ouch), Howe said Isak is “absolutely” in the club’s plans and emphasized that “Alex is happy at Newcastle.”
But the plot thickens. Isak was left out of that Celtic clash, and with Arsenal, Tottenham, and South Korea’s K-League All-Stars on the horizon, fans are asking: Is this really just about a thigh strain?
Who Can Actually Afford Isak?
With three years left on his contract and Newcastle owned by the deep-pocketed Saudi PIF, the club is in no rush — or need — to sell. Their asking price? A cool £130 million.
That number rules out most clubs, but:
Arsenal had shown interest, but are now close to sealing a deal for Viktor Gyokeres.
Manchester City have the cash, but with Haaland already in beast mode, they likely won’t bid.
Chelsea? They’ve added Liam Delap and Joao Pedro but could still be wildcards.
Meanwhile, Elsewhere in the Toon Army…
Defender Lewis Hall is back in the mix after a long foot injury layoff and has been included in the Asia tour squad.
Newcastle’s pre-season continues with a showdown against Arsenal in Singapore on Sunday, followed by matches against the K-League All-Stars (July 30) and Tottenham (August 3) in South Korea.
