Ipswich Town have added a serious dose of experience (and a touch of flair) to their squad by signing former England, Aston Villa, and Manchester United full-back Ashley Young on a one-year contract.
Yes, that Ashley Young – who just celebrated his 40th birthday – is ready to bring his decades of top-flight experience to Portman Road. Released by Everton at the end of last season, Young isn’t hanging up his boots just yet.
With a whopping 750 club appearances under his belt since making his debut for Watford way back in 2003, and 39 caps for England, Young brings more than just a trophy cabinet – he brings leadership, know-how, and a healthy appetite for competition.
🗣️ “Ashley has had a fantastic career and his achievements speak for themselves,” said Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna.
“He’s stayed incredibly professional and competitive over the years, and he’s still playing at a high level. His experience and leadership will be invaluable – and he’s hungry to make an impact both on and off the pitch.”
Ipswich Town kick off their Championship campaign with a tasty clash away at Birmingham City on Friday, August 8 – and you can bet all eyes will be on their new veteran recruit.
