Matchday Fever

Spennymoor Town have gone big—literally and figuratively—with the signing of powerhouse striker Gary Madine, a man with bags of EFL experience and a nose for goal.

The 34-year-old target man, who boasts over 100 career goals in nearly 500 professional appearances, arrives to give boss Graeme Lee a serious focal point up top—and a whole new attacking dimension at The Brewery Field.

From Carlisle Prodigy to Promotion Machine

Madine first made waves as a teenage sensation at Carlisle United, debuting at just 17 before racking up 22 goals in 83 games for the Cumbrians. His form earned him a move to Sheffield Wednesday in 2011, where he top-scored during their promotion-winning League One campaign.

From there, the well-travelled striker hit his stride with Bolton Wanderers, scoring 26 times in 107 outings, before big-spending Cardiff City came calling. He helped the Bluebirds soar to the Premier League and repeated the promotion trick with Sheffield United the following season.

Most recently, Madine found the net eight times in 30 games for Hartlepool United—proving he’s still a serious threat.

“A huge presence and proven scorer”

Speaking on the signing, manager Graeme Lee couldn’t hide his excitement:

“Gary brings so much experience and know-how to this squad. His record speaks for itself—he’s scored goals at every level he’s played at.

“Not only does he offer physical presence and a goal threat, but he’s also clever at linking play and bringing teammates into the game. We’re buzzing to have him on board.”

No. 23 Locked In

Madine will wear the No. 23 shirt at Moors this season. The deal is subject to FA clearance, but the club is confident their newest signing will be ready to lead the line in the opening fixtures.
