Matchday Fever

Preston North End have bolstered their left flank with a dash of Balkan flair, signing Montenegro international Andrija Vukčević on a three-year deal.

After impressing during a trial stint in sunny Spain — where he suited up against La Liga side Getafe in a gritty 0-0 preseason draw — Vukčević made the most of his second audition at Euxton. The 28-year-old left-back showed enough tenacity, technique, and tactical smarts to earn himself a permanent spot in Paul Heckingbottom’s squad.

From Juarez to Lancashire:
A free agent following his departure from Mexican side Juarez — who originally signed him for a reported €1 million — Vukčević spent last season on loan at Spanish second-division outfit FC Cartagena. With 18 international caps for Montenegro in his back pocket, he now brings experience and energy to Deepdale’s defensive unit.

Vukčević on Signing for PNE:

> “I’m really happy to be here. Since day one in Spain, everyone has been amazing with me. I’ve felt welcome and supported. Now it’s my turn to give back on the pitch. I want to show the fans what I can do — and hopefully we’ll create some amazing memories together.”

Boss on Board:
Manager Paul Heckingbottom had nothing but praise for the new arrival:

> “Andy’s attitude has been spot-on from the start. He’s shown real pace and power, especially down the left-hand side. He’s a great fit for us and adds healthy competition to the squad.”

Get ready, Deepdale – Vukčević is ready to run the left wing like it’s his personal motorway.
