Manchester United turned up the heat in Chicago with a dominant 4-1 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League Summer Series, thrilling a packed Soldier Field crowd with an electric performance that screamed “pre-season progress.”
From slick team play to individual brilliance, Ruben Amorim’s side looked sharp, confident, and clinical — a far cry from the patchy displays of early summer.
First Half: Dorgu & Hojlund Light Up Chicago
From the first whistle, United meant business. Mason Mount threatened early with a tasty corner delivery, and Bruno Fernandes nearly broke the deadlock with a drive from the left that forced a save.
But in the 7th minute, it all clicked:
Patrick Dorgu whipped in a wicked cross
Rasmus Hojlund nodded it home with a featherlight touch
1-0 United and Soldier Field erupted.
Dorgu wasn’t done. At the 25-minute mark, the flying wing-back took a Mount through-ball, danced past his marker, and slotted coolly past Petrovic. 2-0 and United were cruising.
Bournemouth thought they’d pulled one back through Semenyo, but the flag went up for offside. The Cherries’ frustration boiled over when Julio Soler clattered Fernandes, earning boos from the crowd and nothing from the ref.
By halftime, it was all United — flowing football, defensive control, and a double helping of Dorgu delight.
Rain, Goals & Rotation: United Don’t Let Up
Despite a second-half downpour, United’s confidence never wavered.
Early on, Bruno Fernandes curled a free-kick inches wide, and Mason Mount smacked the post with a cheeky set-piece trick.
Then came the third:
Amad Diallo danced into the box and buried a clinical finish after a slick one-two with Bruno. 3-0 in the 53rd — and Bournemouth were sinking fast.
The Cherries had their moments — a shot pinging off the bar and a last-ditch leg save from Tom Heaton — but the Red wall stood firm.
In the 72nd minute, after a full outfield rotation, academy gem Ethan Williams pounced on a loose ball after Diego Leon was fouled in the box, calmly slotting his first senior goal for the club. 4-0 and United were flying.
One Blip, But No Problem
Just before full-time, Matthijs de Ligt had a moment to forget, accidentally turning the ball into his own net for Bournemouth’s consolation. But it was little more than a footnote.
