Wrexham AFC have made another major move in the transfer market, announcing the signing of experienced defender Conor Coady from Leicester City.
The 32-year-old England international joins the Red Dragons on a two-year deal, running until the end of the 2026/27 season, with an option for a further year. The deal remains subject to international clearance and registration.
Wrexham AFC said they are “delighted” to secure the services of Coady, who brings a wealth of experience with 485 senior appearances, including 198 in the Premier League.
> “I’m over the moon. It’s a special day,” Coady said. “We’ve all seen what this Club has done in recent years. To now be a part of that journey is really special. I can’t wait to meet the lads and get started.”
From Liverpool Roots to International Recognition
Coady began his career in Liverpool’s academy, captaining both the U18 and U21 teams. He made his professional debut in the UEFA Europa League in 2012 and earned his Premier League debut in 2013 against Fulham.
He gained further experience during a loan spell with Sheffield United, playing a key role in the Blades’ FA Cup semi-final run. A move to Huddersfield Town followed in 2014, where Coady made 45 appearances.
Eight Standout Years at Wolves
In 2015, Coady joined Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he transitioned into a central defensive role and became a key leader. He captained Wolves to promotion to the Premier League in 2017/18 and helped them secure European qualification in 2018/19. He played every minute of Wolves’ UEFA Europa League campaign and was named in UEFA’s Squad of the Season.
Internationally, Coady has earned 10 caps for England and was part of the squad that reached the UEFA Euro 2020 final.
Recent Spells at Everton and Leicester City
After 317 appearances for Wolves, Coady joined Everton on loan for the 2022/23 season, making 25 appearances. He then signed for Leicester City and played 43 games across all competitions, helping the Foxes secure promotion to the Premier League.
Phil Parkinson on the Signing
Manager Phil Parkinson praised the signing, stating:
> “We’re delighted to welcome Conor to the Club. He’s a player with vast Premier League and Championship experience and will be a fantastic addition to the squad.”
