Newcastle United have rejected a formal £120 million bid from Liverpool for star striker Alexander Isak, as transfer talks continue to heat up during the 2025 summer window.

Alexander Isak Wants Summer Exit Amid Transfer Speculation

The 25-year-old Sweden international has made it clear that he wants to leave Newcastle this summer. While Eddie Howe’s squad is on a pre-season tour in South Korea, Isak has opted to train individually at his former club Real Sociedad’s Zubieta training complex.

Liverpool had previously expressed informal interest in the forward, signaling their willingness to negotiate a deal in the region of £120 million. However, Newcastle have now formally turned down the offer, maintaining their position that Isak is not for sale.

Contract Talks Stall as Newcastle Attempt to Keep Isak

Newcastle attempted to secure Isak’s long-term future with a new contract offer, which would have included a summer 2026 release clause. Senior teammates were also involved in persuading the striker to stay at St James’ Park. Despite those efforts, Isak and his representatives remain firm in their desire to move on, a stance the club has been aware of for some time.

Training Absence and Contract Status

While the official explanation for Isak’s absence from pre-season is a minor thigh injury, sources suggest the decision was the player’s preference amid ongoing uncertainty about his future. Isak still has three years remaining on his current Newcastle deal, signed after his £60 million move from Real Sociedad in 2022.

Newcastle Monitoring Replacement Options

Though the club insists Alexander Isak is not available for transfer, they have begun identifying possible replacements in case the situation shifts later in the window.
