Matchday Fever

England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is back with a familiar face—and he’s buzzing about it! The 27-year-old shot-stopper has officially joined Newcastle United on a season-long loan from Southampton, with one key factor behind his move: the Eddie Howe effect.

Ramsdale, who first linked up with Howe in 2017 when the then-Bournemouth boss signed him from Sheffield United for just £800k, couldn’t resist the chance to reunite.

“The gaffer turned me from a lad into a pro,” Ramsdale said with a grin. “Working with Eddie and his coaching crew again? That was a massive pull. They’ve already had such a big influence on my career—he showed me the ropes at Bournemouth, and I’m excited to learn even more at Newcastle.”

With Manchester City swooping in for previous Newcastle target James Trafford, the Magpies pivoted to Ramsdale—and they’ve got their man.

The England international becomes Newcastle’s third summer signing, following forward Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest and promising youngster Antonio Cordero from Malaga.

Meanwhile, Newcastle’s transfer window continues to buzz. Liverpool tested the waters with a £110 million bid for star striker Alexander Isak, but the Magpies said “thanks, but no thanks.” They reportedly value the Swedish sharpshooter closer to the £150 million mark.
