Matchday Fever

Tottenham Hotspur captain and club icon Son Heung-min has announced that he will leave the North London club this summer, ending a remarkable 10-year journey that made him one of the Premier League’s most beloved stars.

The 33-year-old South Korea international departs as a true Spurs legend, having scored 173 goals in 454 appearances since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

A Captain, A Champion – And Now a Farewell

Son’s farewell comes just months after he led Tottenham to a historic Europa League final win over Manchester United in May — their first major trophy in 17 years. He was the skipper, the scorer, and the symbol of Spurs’ long-awaited silverware.

Despite being under contract until 2026, Son is expected to make a move, with MLS side Los Angeles FC reportedly leading the chase for his signature.

“A Very Proud Moment” – Son Reflects on Emotional Goodbye

Speaking alongside new manager Thomas Frank during the club’s pre-season tour in Seoul, Son described the decision to leave as the most emotional of his career.

“I came to north London as a kid — a very young boy who didn’t even speak English. Leaving this club as a grown man is a very, very proud moment,” Son said.

And what could be more poetic than his final appearance potentially coming in his homeland, where Spurs take on Newcastle this Sunday? One last captain’s armband, one last run in front of home fans.

A Farewell Fit for a Legend

New boss Thomas Frank, who replaced Ange Postecoglou in June, paid glowing tribute to the departing star:

“Sonny is a true Spurs legend. One of the greatest players to ever play in the Premier League. If that is the last game for Sonny, what a place to do it — here, in front of his home fans. It could be a beautiful ending.”

Tottenham also face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13, but with talks reportedly advancing, Son may have already jetted off stateside by then.
