Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is set to join Villarreal on a free transfer after leaving the Premier League club this summer.

Partey, 32, has completed a medical and is expected to sign a two-year contract with Villarreal that runs through the summer of 2027.

The Ghana international became a free agent following the expiration of his Arsenal contract in June 2025.

Sources close to the deal indicate that Villarreal’s participation in the UEFA Champions League was a key factor in Partey’s decision.

Legal Proceedings Ongoing

Partey was charged on July 4 with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. He denies all charges.

The allegations stem from an investigation that began in February 2022. Despite the investigation, Partey continued to play for Arsenal throughout his remaining time at the club.

He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

Arsenal Career Overview

Thomas Partey joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020 for a fee of €50 million (approx. £45.4 million / $58.7 million).

Over five seasons, he made 167 appearances for the Gunners, scoring nine goals.

During the 2024–25 season, Partey featured in 52 matches, playing both as a central midfielder and occasionally at right-back.

Departure from Arsenal

Arsenal had been in discussions with Partey about extending his stay at the Emirates Stadium. However, the two sides failed to reach an agreement on contract terms.
