Matchday Fever

Sunderland AFC is thrilled to confirm that Head Coach Régis Le Bris has signed a new long-term contract, committing his future to the Stadium of Light until summer 2028.

The French tactician has extended his stay on Wearside following a sensational debut season in English football, during which he led Sunderland back to the Premier League after an eight-year absence.

Le Bris Commits to Sunderland Until 2028

Speaking after signing his contract extension, Le Bris said:

“The connection I’ve felt with the staff, players, and fans has been natural from day one. We’ve shared unforgettable moments, and the ambition within this Club is clear. There’s a strong desire to grow, and I can feel the energy and unity across every level of the organisation. We’re aligned and ready for the challenges ahead.”

Appointed in June 2024 following his departure from FC Lorient, Le Bris quickly made an impact, guiding the Black Cats to nine wins in their opening 12 Championship matches. He earned the Manager of the Month award in both August and October, cementing his status as one of the league’s brightest minds.

Under his leadership, Sunderland finished the 2024/25 season in fourth place, before producing a memorable play-off run. A dramatic semi-final victory over Coventry City was followed by a thrilling Wembley win against Sheffield United, securing Sunderland’s promotion to the Premier League.

Club Leaders Praise Le Bris’ Impact

Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman said:

“Régis’ extension brings clarity and continuity as we enter the Premier League. His relentless drive for improvement perfectly aligns with our vision. This new deal not only rewards his impact but reinforces our shared ambition for long-term success.”

Director of Football Florent Ghisolfi added:

“This contract is a clear signal of the trust we have in Régis and the future we’re building together. Our goal is to firmly establish Sunderland as a Premier League club — in identity, in performance, and in aspiration. Régis is at the heart of that mission.”
