Matchday Fever

Liverpool have confirmed the sale of midfielder Tyler Morton to French side Lyon in a deal worth £15 million, as the club’s summer transfer business nears the £150 million mark.

The 22-year-old England Under-21 international leaves Anfield after making 14 senior appearances for the Reds. Morton, who played a supporting role in Liverpool’s squad last season, passed his medical in France before completing the move to Ligue 1.

As part of the agreement, Liverpool have inserted a 20% sell-on clause, ensuring they benefit from any future transfer should Morton’s career continue to progress.

England U21 European Champion

Morton’s stock rose this summer after playing a role in England’s victorious UEFA European Under-21 Championship campaign in June. His performances in midfield caught the attention of Lyon, who have been active in strengthening their squad ahead of the new season.

Liverpool Confident in Midfield Depth

Despite losing Morton, Liverpool are confident they have enough depth in midfield. Defensive midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, youngsters James McConnell and Trey Nyoni, and established first-team regulars Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Curtis Jones remain key options for manager Arne Slot.

The transfer follows a busy summer window for Liverpool, with the club’s total income from player sales now approaching £150 million.
