RB Leipzig have approached Liverpool regarding a possible transfer for Harvey Elliott, with talks between the two clubs ongoing. Although negotiations are not yet at an advanced stage, Leipzig are exploring the 22-year-old as a potential replacement for Xavi Simons, who could depart before the close of the transfer window.
Liverpool have reportedly valued Elliott at over £40 million with a buy-back clause, or above £50 million without one, according to The Athletic’s earlier reports. Leipzig’s interest follows news that the Bundesliga club are in discussions with Chelsea over the sale of Simons, who registered 10 goals and six assists in the 2024-25 season.
Elliott’s future at Anfield remains uncertain after limited game time last season, starting just two Premier League matches—both after Liverpool had already secured the title. Across all competitions, he made 28 appearances, scoring five goals and providing three assists. Speaking in June, Elliott admitted he did not want to “waste years” of his career due to a lack of minutes, despite his strong attachment to the club and fans.
His performances at the 2025 Under-21 European Championship further boosted his profile. Named Player of the Tournament, Elliott scored five goals, including one in the final win over Germany and two in the semi-final victory against the Netherlands. He became one of just two players to feature in both England’s 2023 and 2025 title-winning squads.
Since joining Liverpool from Fulham in 2019, Elliott has made 147 appearances and enjoyed a successful loan spell at Blackburn Rovers in 2020-21. The England Under-21 international has collected six trophies during his time at Anfield, but a move to the Bundesliga could offer him the regular football he desires.
