Marc Guiu has officially joined Sunderland on a season-long loan from Chelsea, following the successful completion of a medical on Wearside.

The 19-year-old Spanish striker becomes the latest addition to a busy summer transfer window for the Black Cats, with Sunderland beating Ipswich Town to his signature. Despite interest from multiple clubs looking to buy the talented forward, Chelsea opted to retain Guiu and loan him to another English club to continue his development.

Guiu signed a six-year deal with Chelsea last summer after the Blues activated the €6 million (£5.1m) release clause in his Barcelona contract. He made 16 appearances for Chelsea last season — mostly in the UEFA Conference League — and scored six goals to help the club lift the trophy.

Having risen through Barcelona’s La Masia academy, Guiu made his senior debut for the Catalan giants in October 2023, scoring twice in seven appearances before making the move to Stamford Bridge in 2024. He has also represented Spain at U19 level.

Sunderland’s recruitment drive has seen them add multiple senior players to their squad ahead of the Premier League campaign. Guiu will link up with new signings such as Granit Xhaka, Habib Diarra, and Simon Adringa.
