Hereford FC have bolstered their midfield with the signing of promising central midfielder Matt Richards, following a successful trial spell with the club.
The 21-year-old arrives from West Bromwich Albion, where he signed his first professional contract and spent a decade developing through the club’s youth academy.
Academy Standout at West Brom
Richards joined West Brom at the age of 11 and quickly emerged as one of the standout talents in their youth setup. He played a key role in helping the Baggies’ U21 side lift the Premier League Cup in 2022 and was named Academy Player of the Year that same season.
To gain senior experience, Richards spent loan spells at Stourbridge, Alvechurch, and most recently Leamington, where he impressed in men’s football with his composure, work ethic, and technical ability.
Paul Caddis on Richards: “A Tidy Footballer with Real Potential”
Hereford head coach Paul Caddis shared his excitement about the new signing:
“Matt Richards is a tidy footballer with a great upbringing at West Brom and had two successful senior loan spells at Alvechurch and Leamington respectively. He’s someone I’m pleased to add to our squad.”
“Matt will bring added competition in central midfield and offer calmness on the ball with his passing and receiving abilities. After a successful trial period with us, we were fortunate Matt chose to stay and continue his development here. I’m looking forward to seeing him in action in front of our supporters.”
Hereford fans can expect a young, hungry midfielder eager to make an impact as the Bulls continue their preparations for the new season.
