Despite being reigning champions, Liverpool are tipped to fall short in their Premier League title defence, according to a supercomputer simulation predicting the full 2025/26 Premier League table.

Arne Slot’s first season in charge brought silverware back to Anfield, defying expectations after Jurgen Klopp’s departure. While many doubted Liverpool’s chances last year, a shaky campaign from Manchester City and Arsenal opened the door for the Reds to secure the title with surprising ease.

However, the upcoming season is expected to be far more competitive. Manchester City have made 10 signings since January, reinforcing their already deep squad, while Arsenal have finally strengthened their frontline — a key weakness last term.

Liverpool haven’t been quiet in the market either. The club has already spent over £269 million, including a British-record €116m signing of Florian Wirtz, and they’re reportedly eyeing a £125 million move for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, which would break that record again. Yet despite the spending spree and attacking firepower, the AI model has predicted a third-place finish, similar to the 2020/21 campaign under Klopp.

Arsenal are set to finish second for a fourth consecutive season, while City are expected to reclaim the title under Pep Guardiola. The model cites their “machine-like” system and a predicted 36-goal haul from Erling Haaland as decisive factors.

There’s some positivity for Manchester United, who are predicted to rise 10 places in the table, though they’ll still narrowly miss out on a Champions League spot to Chelsea, who are projected to finish fourth. Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Newcastle are all expected to contend for European spots.

At the bottom, it’s bad news for newly promoted Burnley and Leeds — both are expected to go straight back down, continuing a worrying trend seen in recent seasons.

According to AI, Sunderland are set to beat the drop.

These predictions come via a supercomputer simulation by MatchDay Fever, which ran thousands of scenarios for the 2025/26 campaign based on transfers, squad data, and performance trends.
