Burnley have completed the signing of Slovakia international goalkeeper Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United on a one-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 36-year-old brings a wealth of Premier League experience to Turf Moor after spending over seven years at St James’ Park. Dubravka joined Newcastle from Sparta Prague in 2018, initially on loan, and went on to make 179 appearances, keeping 51 clean sheets across all competitions.
He played a crucial role in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph last season, registering three clean sheets, including both legs of the semi-final victory over Arsenal.
Burnley have been searching for a new first-choice keeper following the departure of James Trafford, who returned to Manchester City in July. The deal reportedly set a new record fee for a British goalkeeper, leaving a gap that Burnley believe Dubravka can fill with his experience and leadership.
“I’ve only heard really positive things about the club, the culture and the environment we work in,” Dubravka told Burnley’s official site.
Dubravka joins a Burnley squad full of momentum. The club enjoyed a remarkable 2024/25 Championship campaign, going unbeaten in 33 matches and hitting the 100-point mark. Despite that incredible run, they narrowly missed out on the title, finishing second to Leeds United on goal difference.
“Burnley had a fantastic campaign last season, built on a superb defensive record,” Dubravka added.
“I can’t wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad of players.”
Burnley will hope Dubravka’s arrival strengthens their defensive unit as they prepare for their Premier League return.
