Matchday Fever

Chelmsford City FC confirm the signing of striker Lyle Taylor following his departure from Colchester United.

The 35-year-old forward joins the Clarets after an impressive campaign in League Two, where he finished as Colchester United’s top scorer.

A Proven Goalscorer with Experience Across All Levels

Taylor began his professional career at Millwall, before hitting prolific form with Concord Rangers, which earned him a move to AFC Bournemouth. Loan spells at Lewes and Woking followed, where he gained valuable experience in the National League South.

His most notable stint came at AFC Wimbledon, where he became a fan favorite, scoring over 50 goals in more than 150 appearances between 2015 and 2018. Taylor played a pivotal role in the club’s promotion to League One, scoring the opener in the 2016 Play-Off Final.

He later helped Charlton Athletic secure promotion to the Championship, before reaching the Premier League with Nottingham Forest. He also enjoyed spells with Birmingham City, Wycombe Wanderers, and Cambridge United prior to his standout season with Colchester United.

Lyle Taylor on Joining Chelmsford City

“I worked with Caroline Barker last season and she brought Chelmsford to my attention. Over the summer I had good conversations with her and Spencer, and everything just clicked from there,” said Taylor.

“I already know a few of the lads, so it was great walking into a familiar dressing room.

Angelo has been very clear about what he expects, and I’ve shared what I want too. We’re on the same page — so let’s go.”
