Hull City have completed the signing of Scotland international Oli McBurnie, with the former Sheffield United forward joining the Tigers on a three-year contract.

The 29-year-old arrives on a free transfer after spending last season with La Liga side Las Palmas, where he made headlines with wins over Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, despite the club’s eventual relegation after finishing 19th.

McBurnie now returns to English football as part of Sergej Jakirovic’s new-look Hull City squad, hoping to help the club push for promotion in the upcoming Championship season.

“There’s something to be said for a team and a manager that really wants you,” McBurnie told Hull City’s official website.
“When I spoke to the manager, the first thing he said to me was, ‘Can you score me 15 goals?’”

The striker is no stranger to the Championship. During his five-year spell at Sheffield United, McBurnie made 159 appearances and scored 29 goals. His most prolific campaign came in 2022/23, when he scored 15 times to help the Blades secure promotion to the Premier League.

Despite the allure of La Liga, McBurnie revealed that the chance to return to England had to be “something special.”

“I needed to come back for something that excites me and, at the same time, is right for me and my family,” he said.

Hull City begin their Championship campaign away to Coventry City this Saturday at 12:30 BST.
