West Ham United have completed the signing of Mads Hermansen from Leicester City in a transfer worth around £20 million. The Denmark international has signed a five-year contract with an option for a further year, becoming the Hammers’ latest addition under manager Graham Potter.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper was a standout performer for Leicester last season, despite their relegation from the Premier League. His consistent displays attracted interest from several clubs, but West Ham finalised the deal after weeks of negotiations, reaching an agreement on Thursday.

Hermansen arrives to bolster the squad following the departure of veteran keeper Łukasz Fabiański, who left at the end of last season. He will now compete for the No.1 spot with Alphonse Areola, 32, who made 26 Premier League appearances in the 2024/25 campaign.

The move also reunites Hermansen with Casper Ankergren, West Ham’s goalkeeping coach, who previously worked with him at Brøndby.

Since joining Leicester in 2023, Hermansen made 72 appearances and played a key role in their 2024 Championship title win. His exit follows that of Wilfred Ndidi, who left the Foxes for Turkish side Beşiktaş on Friday after eight-and-a-half years at the King Power Stadium. Ndidi’s move was triggered by a £9m relegation release clause.
