FA Cup holders Crystal Palace stunned Premier League champions Liverpool 3-2 on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw to claim the Community Shield at Wembley.
Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson was the hero in the shootout, saving spot-kicks from Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott, while Mohamed Salah blazed his penalty over the crossbar.
That set the stage for 21-year-old midfielder Justin Devenny, a stoppage-time substitute, to step up and smash the winning penalty past Alisson.
The victory caps a remarkable year for Palace, who had never won a major trophy in their history until lifting the FA Cup earlier this year. Now, just months later, they have added the Community Shield — becoming the first team to win the competition on their debut in 50 years, since Derby County in 1975.
