Ipswich Town have completed the season-long loan signing of striker Chuba Akpom from Dutch giants Ajax, adding proven Championship firepower to their squad for the 2025/26 campaign.

The 29-year-old forward, who began his career at Arsenal, has enjoyed an impressive career across Europe. After a successful spell with PAOK Salonika, Akpom became a key figure at Middlesbrough, scoring 33 goals in 77 league appearances.

Akpom joined Ajax in the summer of 2023 but spent part of last season on loan at French club Lille, where he found the net three times in 15 appearances and gained valuable Champions League experience.

Speaking to Ipswich’s official website, Akpom expressed his excitement over the move:

“I watch a lot of football and have always thought Ipswich would suit my style, so this move makes perfect sense. I’m here to do as much as I can to help the team, on and off the pitch, and I’ll bring a winning mentality here.”

Akpom joins an Ipswich side that began their new Championship season with a 1-1 draw against newly promoted Birmingham City. The Tractor Boys will face Bromley in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday before returning to league action at Portman Road on Sunday against Southampton, who were relegated from the Premier League last season.

The arrival of Akpom is expected to provide Ipswich Town with a clinical attacking option as they aim for a strong campaign in England’s second tier.
