Morecambe FC owner Jason Whittingham has confirmed that a mediation meeting with potential buyers Panjab Warriors will take place this Wednesday, as the club looks to finalize its long-running takeover saga.

The Shrimps, relegated from the English Football League last season, were due to open their 2025-26 National League campaign against Boston United on Saturday, but uncertainty over ownership has dominated headlines.

Delayed Talks and Ongoing Sale Process

Panjab Warriors had previously claimed that a mediation session planned for last week was cancelled at short notice by Whittingham. However, in a new statement, the Morecambe owner stressed that discussions are ongoing with “a number of potential buyers” and that he anticipates completing the process later this week.

“Key stakeholders of the club are regularly updated as we, along with our advisory team, engage with buyers and remain fully supportive of the process,” Whittingham said. “We will be appointing an interim board imminently to facilitate the final stages of the sale process.”

Background to the Takeover Battle

Panjab Warriors have been attempting to purchase Morecambe for over a year, claiming they have already provided significant financial support to help the club through last season.

Earlier this summer, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy issued an open letter urging Whittingham to sell the club amid a turbulent off-season, during which another unnamed party also made a bid.

The National League suspended Morecambe earlier this year for failing to comply with league regulations, while Panjab Warriors warned that the club could be forced to close if a takeover did not proceed.
