Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of Bournemouth defender Illia Zabarnyi in a deal worth €66 million (£57 million), making the Ukraine international one of the most expensive defensive transfers of the summer.

The 22-year-old centre-back has signed a five-year contract with the European champions, describing PSG as “the best club in the world, with the best project”. The deal includes an initial payment of £54.5 million plus £2.6 million in performance-related add-ons.

Zabarnyi’s departure marks Bournemouth’s third major defensive sale of the transfer window. Dean Huijsen joined Real Madrid for £50 million, while Milos Kerkez moved to Liverpool in a £40 million deal. The Cherries will make a substantial profit from the trio, having spent a combined £52.1 million to sign them and now recouping £147 million in sales.

Signed from Dynamo Kyiv in 2023 for a reported £24 million, Zabarnyi quickly became a key figure at the Vitality Stadium. His move to PSG reflects the French champions’ commitment to strengthening their defence as they aim to defend their European crown in the 2025/26 season.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, have already lined up a replacement, agreeing a deal for Bafodé Diakité from Lille. The French defender will join for an initial £30 million, potentially rising to £34 million with add-ons.
