Nottingham Forest are set to make a major statement in the summer transfer window, agreeing deals worth £37.5 million for Ipswich Town winger Omari Hutchinson and nearly £30 million for Manchester City midfielder James McAtee.

The move for 22-year-old McAtee — who captained England Under-21s to Euro 2025 glory — will include a sell-on and buy-back clause, highlighting his continued value to City.

Forest had been weighing up their next approach for Hutchinson, 21, after seeing a £35m bid rejected by Ipswich over the weekend. The winger had also attracted interest from Brentford, who had a £35m offer turned down last month despite meeting his relegation release clause. The clause expired after Brentford’s bid was not cash up front, allowing Forest to take pole position for his signature.

Forest are also in advanced talks for Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, with the three deals combined potentially worth close to £90 million ahead of Sunday’s Premier League opener against Brentford.

The East Midlands club have been targeting attacking reinforcements following the sale of Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United for a club-record £55m. They have already added Dan Ndoye from Bologna earlier this summer.

Hutchinson, who scored in England U21’s extra-time final win over Germany in June after being set up by McAtee, joined Ipswich from Chelsea last summer for £20m. During his 2023–24 loan spell at Portman Road, he played a key role in helping the Tractor Boys reach the Premier League.

The winger netted three goals in 31 league appearances last season but could not prevent Kieran McKenna’s side from being relegated back to the Championship. Ipswich have also parted ways with striker Liam Delap, who joined Chelsea in a £30m deal after scoring 12 goals last season.
