Wrexham AFC have completed the signing of Wales international Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town in a deal that could rise to £10 million, setting a new club transfer record.
The 27-year-old versatile forward, in the final year of his contract at Portman Road, has signed a four-year deal with the Dragons as they prepare for the new Championship season.
Broadhead Delighted to Join Wrexham
Speaking after putting pen to paper, Broadhead said:
> “It’s been a long time coming and I’m delighted to join the club. Belief is going to be the biggest thing for us this season. We want everyone from North Wales to get behind us at the Stok Cae Ras and show that belief.”
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson added:
> “I’m delighted to welcome Nathan to the club. We’re all looking forward to working with him in the coming seasons.”
Record-Breaking Transfer Under Hollywood Ownership
While the initial fee is expected to be lower than the reported £10m, the move still smashes Wrexham’s transfer record.
Since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took control in 2021, the club has repeatedly broken its spending records, the previous high believed to be over £3m for midfielder Lewis O’Brien from Nottingham Forest last month.
Broadhead becomes Wrexham’s ninth signing since their promotion from League One last season, joining high-profile arrivals such as:
Danny Ward (Goalkeeper)
Kieffer Moore (Forward)
Josh Windass (Forward)
Ryan Hardie (Forward)
Conor Coady (Defender)
Liberato Cacace (Defender)
George Thomason (Midfielder)
Lewis O’Brien (Midfielder)
From Bangor to the Premier League and Back to North Wales
Bangor-born Broadhead began his football journey in Wrexham’s academy and Bangor City before moving to Everton, where he made two senior appearances. Loan spells at Burton Albion, Sunderland, and Wigan Athletic followed before his permanent move to Ipswich Town in 2023.
He played a key role in Ipswich’s remarkable rise from League One to the Premier League, scoring two goals in 18 top-flight appearances under Kieran McKenna last season.
On the international stage, Broadhead has scored two goals in 14 caps for Wales, including a debut goal against Croatia in 2023.
Wrexham Not Done in Transfer Market
The Dragons have also been linked with Liverpool’s Wales international Lewis Koumas and Ajax midfielder Sivert Mannsverk, who spent last season on loan at Cardiff City.
