Reading FC have completed the signing of experienced winger Matt Ritchie on a two-year contract following his departure from boyhood club Portsmouth earlier this summer.
The 35-year-old former Premier League winger, who previously starred for Bournemouth and Newcastle United, becomes the Royals’ 12th summer signing as manager Noel Hunt continues his squad rebuild at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
Ritchie’s Experience and Track Record
Ritchie made 39 Championship appearances for Portsmouth last season, contributing five goals and one assist. Known for his leadership qualities and professionalism, he brings a wealth of top-flight and Championship experience to a young Reading side.
Manager Noel Hunt praised the arrival:
“Matt is a fantastic signing for us – he’s a proven player at every level, a leader on and off the pitch, and someone who will set standards for everyone. His quality and experience of winning promotions will be invaluable. We’re delighted to get him on board.”
Reading’s Busy Summer Window
Ritchie becomes Reading’s second signing from Portsmouth this summer, following winger Paddy Lane. His arrival marks another statement of intent from the club, who have been active in the transfer market after a difficult start to the season.
Reading’s League One Struggles
Despite their transfer activity, Reading currently sit second from bottom in League One, with just two points from their opening five games. Hunt hopes Ritchie’s experience will help turn results around quickly.
The winger could make his Reading debut this Saturday against Port Vale at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
