Matchday Fever

West Ham United have agreed a deal worth over £40 million to sign Mateus Fernandes from Southampton, with the Portugal Under-21 international midfielder set to undergo a medical in London.

The 21-year-old is poised to become one of the Hammers’ most expensive signings in history, ranking behind only Lucas Paquetá (£51m) and Sebastian Haller (£45m).

Boost for Graham Potter’s Squad

The move comes as a major boost for manager Graham Potter, who is under early pressure after West Ham lost their opening three matches of the season in all competitions. Fernandes’ arrival will add creativity and energy to the midfield as the club looks to turn around its poor start.

Southampton Set for Profit

Southampton are set to make a significant profit on Fernandes, who they signed from Sporting Lisbon for £15m last summer. Since then, he has gone on to make 46 appearances, scoring four goals and providing seven assists, establishing himself as one of the standout young talents in the Championship.

More Midfield Reinforcements Expected

West Ham are also close to finalising another deal, with Monaco midfielder Soungoutou Magassa expected to arrive for a fee of around £17.3m. The 21-year-old France Under-21 international is due to complete a medical on Thursday, potentially making it back-to-back midfield signings for the Hammers.
