Matchday Fever

York City have moved swiftly to appoint Stuart Maynard as their new first-team manager, following the departure of Adam Hinshelwood earlier today.

The Enterprise National League club wasted no time in unveiling Maynard, who joins with a strong reputation after guiding Notts County to the League Two play-offs last season and previously managing Wealdstone.

York City Leadership on the Appointment

In a joint statement, co-chairs Matt and Julie-Anne Uggla expressed their excitement at Maynard’s arrival:

“We are thrilled to have Stuart with us as the new first-team manager. He comes with a high pedigree of football knowledge and shares our ambition to take this football club to the EFL. We know supporters will join us in welcoming him, and we cannot wait for this next chapter to begin.”

Maynard on Joining the Minstermen

Maynard, who will take charge of his first match against Yeovil on September 6, said the club’s ambition was key to his decision:

“I’m delighted to join such an ambitious club in York City. The direction since Matt and Julie-Anne took over aligns perfectly with my goals to make York a successful club. The foundations are in place for long-term success, and I can’t wait to get started.”

He will be joined by new assistant manager Joao Alves, while Gary Elphick will remain part of the coaching staff as a first-team coach.

Hinshelwood’s Departure

Outgoing manager Adam Hinshelwood leaves after 18 months in charge, during which he guided York to second place in the National League last season, amassing 96 points before falling short in the play-off semi-final against eventual promotion winners Oldham Athletic.

This season, York have made a slow start, winning just one of their opening four matches. Their most recent outing saw them held to a 1-1 draw against Woking.
