Matchday Fever

Newcastle United have officially completed the club-record signing of German striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart on a six-year contract.

The 6ft 6in (1.98m) Germany international, aged 23, arrives at St James’ Park in a deal worth up to £69 million, surpassing the club’s previous transfer record of £63 million paid for Alexander Isak three years ago.

Woltemade Joins Newcastle United

Woltemade, who will wear the number 27 shirt, has not been registered in time to feature in Newcastle’s upcoming Premier League clash against Leeds United on Saturday.

Despite the delay to his debut, the towering striker is expected to play a crucial role in Newcastle’s attack, particularly with uncertainty surrounding the future of Alexander Isak, who is reportedly keen on a move to Liverpool.

Nick Woltemade on Joining Newcastle

Speaking after signing, Woltemade expressed his excitement about joining the Magpies:

> “I’m really happy to be at this amazing club. From the first contact, I felt like Newcastle really wanted me and had big plans for me.
It’s a big step in my life to leave Germany but everyone here has welcomed me so well and it already feels like family. After speaking with the head coach, I’m confident this is the right place for me to find my best level.
I know how incredible the atmosphere at St James’ Park is from watching on TV, and I can’t wait to start scoring goals for Newcastle.”

Eddie Howe Praises New Signing

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe believes Woltemade perfectly fits the club’s vision for the future:

> “We’re delighted to complete Nick’s signing so quickly. He matches exactly what we’ve been looking for in terms of our attacking options.
Nick has excellent technical ability, he’s proven himself in one of Europe’s top leagues, and at just 23 years old, he still has a lot of room to develop and grow with us.”

With the signing of Nick Woltemade, Newcastle United look to start strengthening their attack for the present as Isak looks set to leave.
