Wycombe Wanderers have sacked head coach Mike Dodds after a disastrous start to their League One campaign.
The Chairboys have managed just one win from their opening eight matches, leaving them 19th in the table and on the same points as teams in the relegation zone.
Mike Dodds’ Wycombe Tenure
Dodds took charge in February when Wycombe were sitting second in League One. However, results soon dipped as the club fell out of the automatic promotion places and were eventually knocked out by Charlton in the play-off semi-finals.
Across his time in charge, Dodds recorded just seven wins in 20 matches last season. That poor run carried over into this campaign, prompting the club to take action.
Official Club Statement
In an announcement, Wycombe Wanderers confirmed both Dodds and first-team coach Pete Shuttleworth have left the club:
“Wycombe Wanderers have today parted company with Head Coach Mike Dodds and First-Team Coach Pete Shuttleworth.
The board has reluctantly taken this decision, and the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Mike and Pete for their hard work and efforts during their time with Wycombe Wanderers, and wish them every success for the future.”
Summer Backing But No Progress
Despite being backed heavily in the summer with 11 new signings, Wycombe lost last season’s League One Player of the Year, Richard Kone. The departures combined with poor form left Dodds unable to turn things around.
Background on Mike Dodds
This was Dodds’ first senior managerial role. Before joining Wycombe, he coached at Sunderland and worked as Academy Manager at Birmingham City, where he played a key role in developing stars such as Jude Bellingham, Demarai Gray, and Nathan Redmond.
