Salford City will make a bold return to their roots as supporters have voted overwhelmingly to change the club’s primary home colour back to orange — ending more than a decade of playing in red.
Fans Vote for a Return to Tradition
In a club-wide poll, 77.1% of Salford fans voted in favour of bringing back the club’s traditional orange and black colours, which the Ammies proudly wore for around 40 years before the arrival of the Class of ’92 ownership group in 2014.
The change will officially take effect ahead of the 2026–27 season, marking a symbolic return to Salford’s pre-2014 identity.
New Ownership, New Era
The decision comes shortly after Gary Neville and David Beckham completed a takeover of Salford City in May 2025 as part of a new consortium, which bought out the remaining members of the Class of ’92 group.
In a statement, the club said the rebrand represents a fresh start for the Ammies:
“This landmark choice will evolve the club into a bold, new era by combining our tangerine heritage with modern style to create a striking orange identity,” Salford City said.
“From the terraces to the training ground, from the park pitches to the supermarket queue — when you see orange, you will know what it means. This is Salford. Proud. Unmistakable.”
Peninsula Stadium to Undergo Upgrades
Salford also confirmed that significant work will be carried out at the Peninsula Stadium to align with the club’s new look. Planned changes include:
- Updating cladding and seating to match the orange colour scheme
- Implementing infrastructure upgrades already scheduled for the venue
- Revamping branding and signage around the stadium
These renovations are expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2026–27 campaign.
Next: Fans to Have Say on Club Crest
The club also announced that a new consultation with supporters will follow, focused on potentially redesigning the club crest, which was originally changed in 2014 following the Class of ’92 takeover.
This step is part of a broader fan engagement initiative under the new ownership, aimed at giving supporters a stronger voice in shaping the future identity of the club.
A Nostalgic Yet Modern Move
The return to orange marks a nostalgic nod to Salford City’s grassroots beginnings, while also setting the tone for a modern reimagining of the club under Beckham and Neville’s stewardship.
The decision has already been met with excitement across the fanbase, with many describing it as a “return home” for one of Greater Manchester’s most ambitious clubs.
