David Nugent Returns to the Pitch in Non-League Football
Former England international striker David Nugent has made a sensational return to football — signing for Anstey Nomads as player-coach.
The move marks a new chapter for the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands club, who have pulled off a major coup by securing the services of a player with top-flight pedigree.
A Veteran of Over 600 Professional Appearances
Nugent, 40, brings vast experience from his career across the Premier League and EFL, having played for clubs including Leicester City, Preston North End, and Derby County.
He has scored 162 career goals in more than 600 appearances and famously netted on his England debut in 2007 during a 3-0 win over Andorra — a moment that remains a highlight of his one-cap international career.
A Fresh Challenge at Cropston Road
Anstey Nomads announced Nugent’s arrival via their official social media channels, confirming that he will be available for selection this Saturday against Loughborough Students.
The club posted:
“Join us tomorrow for a 3:00PM KO at Cropston Road!”
Fans are expected to turn out in numbers to see the former Premier League striker make his Non-League debut.

Aldershot Town re-signed Will Armitage on loan from Southampton and secured Ciaran Gilligan from Burton Albion to add depth.
