Matchday Fever

Barnet FC have completed the signing of experienced forward Britt Assombalonga, bringing the former Watford, Nottingham Forest, and Middlesbrough striker back to English football.

The 32-year-old joins the National League side after most recently playing in Turkey with Antalyaspor and Adana Demirspor.

Experienced Forward Returns to London

Assombalonga, who began his career in Watford’s academy, made his professional debut for the Hornets before gaining valuable experience during loan spells at Wealdstone, Braintree Town, and Southend United.

He rose to prominence during a prolific season with Peterborough United, where he scored 33 goals in 58 appearances during the 2013/14 campaign.

That form earned him a move to the Championship, where he spent seven years with Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough, making 230 appearances and netting 77 goals.

Assombalonga narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League during his time with Boro before moving abroad to join Adana Demirspor in the Turkish Süper Lig.

After a short return to Watford in early 2023, the forward headed back to Turkey for the 2023/24 season.

International Experience

Born in Kinshasa, Assombalonga has represented the Democratic Republic of Congo on ten occasions, including appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Brennan: “He’ll Be Great With the Young Players”

Barnet head coach Dean Brennan praised the signing, highlighting both the striker’s experience and character:

“Britt gives us vast experience and bundles of quality — he’s proven it at a high level.
The timing is perfect for us, and he wanted to come back to the UK and return to London, where he’s from.
He’s always got a smile on his face and he’ll be great with the young players.”

Assombalonga: “I Just Want to Get Back to Doing What I Do Best”

Speaking after completing the move, Assombalonga said he was excited to get started:

“After speaking to the gaffer and Connor, it was something I really wanted to do and we finally got it over the line.
Dean just wants me to be myself and get back to doing what I do best.”
