Rangers FC have officially appointed Danny Rohl as their new head coach on an initial two-and-a-half-year contract, ending the club’s two-week search for a permanent replacement for Russell Martin.
The former Sheffield Wednesday manager, aged 36, joins the Glasgow giants after talks with Kevin Muscat collapsed earlier this week. Rohl flew into Scotland to finalise his deal and will take charge immediately — starting with Rangers’ Europa League clash against Brann on Thursday night.
Rohl’s Journey to Ibrox
Rohl began his coaching career at RB Leipzig, where he worked closely with Ralph Hasenhuttl before following him to Southampton in 2018. He later joined Hansi Flick’s staff at Bayern Munich, helping the club win the Bundesliga title.
In October 2023, Rohl took his first managerial job at Sheffield Wednesday, where he earned widespread praise for guiding the team to Championship safety despite a disastrous start to the season.
“A Huge Privilege” – Rohl’s First Words as Rangers Boss
Speaking after his appointment, Rohl said:
“It is a huge privilege to be taking on the role of head coach at such an incredible club, recognised around the world.
I know it has been a difficult start to the season, but there is still so much to play for in four competitions. My staff and I will give everything to reward the supporters and the club.
Rangers is built on hard work, unity, and success — and that’s exactly what you will get from me and my team.”
Rohl added that his immediate focus is on restoring belief and consistency, saying “We start straight away — trust is earned on the pitch.”
Rangers Board Back Rohl to “Restore Pride and Success”
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh said Rohl’s background and ambition made him the ideal candidate:
“Danny shares our hunger for progress and success. His experience in elite football environments makes him a strong fit for Rangers.”
Vice-chairman Paraag Marathe added:
“This was a thorough process to find the right leader. Danny’s tactical intelligence and passion align with the club’s ambitions.”
Chief executive Patrick Stewart echoed those sentiments:
“We know results have fallen short of expectations, but with Danny and his staff in place, we’re confident we can get this season back on track.”
